Summertime and the Knittin’s Easy

Tea Cozy

Rug

My knitting always slows down a little during the summer months.  Partly because I have kids home from school who require some entertaining (well, one child who is still young enough to need some effort on my part to keep him entertained, and two who are old enough that they just want the cars, or money to keep them entertained), and partly because it’s just too hot to think about anything complicated and woolly.  My go-to summer knitting is usually something easy and cotton.  This year is no different.  Above you see my current projects:  a yellow tea-cozy that’s almost finished, and a throw-rug for my front door.  I’m not sure I really need a tea-cozy, but I thought it’d be a nice switch from dishcloth knitting (my usual mindless knitting project).  The throw-rug I do need.  I’m tired of trying to find rugs in the colors I want that are easily washable and don’t cost a fortune.  I’m using a pattern from this book for it, but it’s straight-up garter stitch with occasional color changes so the pattern is really more of a guideline.  Although, in keeping with the “mindless knitting” approach, I’m pretty much following the pattern.  I’m using 2 strands of Peaches & Creme held together, and so far I’m liking the thickness.  It’s cushy, but not so heavy that it’ll kill my washer.  I hope.
