I know summer doesn’t officially end for another week or so, but there are signs of the changing season everywhere. The leaves are starting to turn, the nights have cooled off (great sleeping weather) and the kids are back in school. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, maybe because I grew up in Southern California, so never had a proper Autumn. And even though I’m always a bit depressed that summer is over and that winter will soon be here, I love that the days are still beautifully sunny without being sticky-hot. I always seem to get a burst of motivation to get stuff done and re-organize, etc. I’m sure it has more to do with the fact that I don’t have children of all ages roaming through the house constantly than the change in the weather, but whatever. It’s a perfect time of year for knitting, too. The weather starts to cool down so thoughts of sweaters and afghans seem bearable, but the craziness of the holiday season hasn’t started so everything seems possible. I’ve been spending a little time trying to get a handle on my WIP’s and the things that are not yet on the needles, but waiting in the wings. Clearly, I’m much better at being excited about starting new things than I am about actually finishing them. I know I’m not alone in this, so I try not to let it worry me too much. I figure as long as I’m enjoying the process (and not bankrupting myself) it’s all good.
I did manage to finish the Prayer Shawl I’ve been working on for my SIL.

The pattern is the Knit Wide Scarf from the book “The Prayer Shawl Ministry”. I used Lion Brand’s Homespun yarn in the Waterfall colorway. I’m planning to get it mailed out to her in the next day or two. I’m hoping it will help her feel less alone as she deals with things in the next few months.
